Rust is a MMO survival videogame developed by Facepunch Studios, creators of the popular Garry’s Mod. It is available for Mac OS, Linux and Windows PC via Steam. The game is based on other popular titles such as DayZ or Minecraft, as the main objective is to survive in a radiated world filled with both zombies and bandits. Players are forced to use a structure building system to put something between them and enemies, creating sprawling fortresses made of wooden walls, doors and floors.
The main objective is to survive in a radiated world filled with zombies and bandits
Rust drops you into the wilderness without any starting equipment, which means that you are vulnerable to most things out there. There are zombies surrounding urban areas and dense forests are full of wild beasts such as wolves that will hunt you down unless you have a decent weapon to fight them. Due to Rust being a MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) game, attacks from other players are an ever-present threat for you. They can block you inside buildings, steal whatever you store in your crates before running away, or simply kill you if they are armed.
How to Survive
There are many things to bear in mind when playing Rust. This title simulates real survival aspects accurately, and you have to keep your bare necessities satisfied to stay alive. There are several positive and negative buffs such as cold, which occurs when your character is insufficient clothing and is not around a heat source. This debuff increases the rate at which your calorie meter drops, making your character hungry. The opposite status is comfort, which occurs when you are near a fire or light source, allowing the character to restore health.
You start the game with a rock in your hands… and nothing else. You are free to use this primitive tool to gather some basic resources such as wood (hitting trees with it) or other rocks. Once you have enough wood and stone, you can use the crafting system to create a Stone Hatchet. This is way better than the rock, but it’s not enough to survive your first night. You need to create a shelter using wood and then place a door for shelter. If you manage to survive, you’ll notice your character is hungry, so it’s time for you to search for food. Once you have these basic resources, you can keep crafting better items to increase your chances of survival.
